Large evergreen tree with glossy green leaves. Use for screening or a specimen tree, or as a pleached hedge. Well drained soil essential, best planted out of the wind. Very frost tender. (GOOD FOR: DRY, FOLIAGE, POTS, SPECIMEN, SEMI-SHADE, SUN)
People are using this as an alternative to Griselinias, but it does have some issues as well. The list of issues are: Very frost tender. Needs a really well drained soil. Best in a slightly shady site (but not too shady), gets spider mites which are hard things to kill. Not too good in windy sites. Can suffer leaf drop if it gets stressed. Have I put you off? There are plenty of people with success stories, but plenty of disappointing Ficus tuffi hedges around too. The secret is getting the site and soil right first.
