Harbour View Track Build – David’s Stories

Like many people in NZ, we were wondering what to do with ourselves at the end of March 2020, so David and his family started forming a 1.5km forest walk through part of the forest area at Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens. Construction of the walk involved a lot of work with spades and wheelbarrows, installing culvert pipes, weedeating, digging drains, installing signs, seats, traps and a picnic table, and moving bark mulch. Below is a shot of David getting ready to unload another trailer load of mulch – over 70m3 were used on the new tracks!

The track officially opened in May 2021, and is now an important part of the Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens trails, making 3.5km of trails to walk and explore in total, as well as becoming an important part of our trapline network.
