Our experience using these in the Auckland region:

These can work well as a low hedge. We find they can suffer from thrip damage in the summer, however a nice natural solution to this is to give them a puff with Diotomaceous Earth at least once over the summer. I haven't tried making jam/jelly from the fruit yet - we normally eat the fruit fresh. If you have tried Jelly leave a review and let us know.
