Our experience using these in the Auckland region:

This a one of the 'go to' plants for landscapers, and for good reason. Tough, hardy to wind, will grow almost anywhere, with shiny leaves, and nice and compact. They can get a bit knocked aroudn by frosts in the first few years, but once established withstand anything.
