Our experience using these in the Auckland region:

We have a group of these growing in out gardens in a sunny spot with good drainage, and they look good, and we love the splash of flower colour, and the rest of the year they are a nice green look. We never water them in the summer, and they just hunker down and cope with the hot dry site we have them in.
