We have a few hedges of these around Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens, and we find they grow in a wide range of sites. Just make sure the soil is well drained. One of our hedges gets very little sun, and it is great, the other is in full sun. We love the velvety new leaves and that they flower twice a year. Trim after flowering.
