These are one of those ugly duckling native plants that look half dead in their pots, but once you plant them out get thicker and bushier, and look really great in groups. You can trim them, or just let them grow into dense tangled shrubs. Very versitile. The birds love them as well. They grow really well in the Auckland region in pretty much any situation.
